I have visited The Wadsworth, the Yale Center for British Art, Yale University Art Gallery and tomorrow I am headed to NYC! I will be posting one of the larger picture posts that is required of us after the weekend, but I just wanted to check in and say that I have been having a great time with my museum visits. I plan on going back to the Yale Center for British Art and Yale Univeristy Art Gallery for my 5th and 6th visits just because I am almost full term with my pregnancy and going too far away after tomorrow is a little risky!
Sorry it is fuzzy, but here is a picture of me riding up the elevator to see the special Archives from India exhibit in the British Art gallery. You are not allowed to take pictures of the special exhibits in any museum that I have been too, but I have found all of them so fascinating! I think for my extra posts during the weeks I will post on those since they are not required in my papers.
Here is the outside of the exhibit, (the only picture I was allowed to take):
Sir Charles Warre Mallet, James Forbes, James Wales and Gangaram Chintaman Tambat where the featured artists in the exhibit. Because of the British influence in India it is not surprising that three of the artists are from England and only one was a native. They did have plenty of natives involved as well, but the artists were unknown so they could not be listed with information. I did receive a great book that went along with the exhibit so I took some pictures of that for you all to see.
It is interesting to me how I gravitated towards some works versus others before I knew the artist. I realized that I enjoyed the art of locals and Gangaram much more so than the British artists. They just seemed more authentic and attractive to me, speaking more about the country then the others did. Even in this book that went along with the exhibit, I just started taking pictures of what caught my eye before I read what went along with it. These three pieces of art were my favorite in the book and then when I started reading about them I realized that they were all pieces by Gangaram.
The exhibit is fabulous and I will post a larger set of pictures involving the rest of the gallery after my second visit there. Hope you all have a good weekend!
Okay, great Lindsey.... hang in there!
